Lynnville-Sully’s twosome run for Team Iowa in all-star meet

Lynnville-Sully’s Meliek Meyer and Bailee Samson had one more high school track competition. The two 2014 Lynnville-Sully seniors competed in the 16th annual Midwest Senior Spotlight Meet, June 14, at St. Francis University in Joliet, Ill.

The Midwest Senior Spotlight Meet pits the best track and field seniors of Iowa against their counterparts from Illinois and Wisconsin. Meyer and Samson competed for Team Iowa.

Meyer, the Iowa Class 1A 100-meter champion, ran sixth in the 100-meter dash in the senior meet. He was the second finisher from Iowa as Rico Gafford won the race in 10.69 seconds. Meyer ran the race in 11.17 seconds. There were four Wisconsin runners between the two Team Iowa teammates.

In the 200-meter dash, Samson posted a time of 22.92 seconds for sixth place. He was the top finisher from Iowa.

Meyer combined with Gafford, Levi TeBrink and Nathan Karlan to take second in the 4x200-meter relay race in 1 minute, 29.44 seconds. Wisconsin won in 1:28.02.

Samson and Meyer joined Karlan and Gafford to give Team Iowa a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay race. The Iowa foursome ran the race in 42.95 seconds. Wisconsin was first in 42.45 seconds.

Lynnville-Sully’s Mike Parkinson was named the boys’ Class 1A state meet coach of the year by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches.
