Iowa River Hospice Caregiver Support Group: Seniors & Diabetes

Tuesday, April 30, 1 p.m.

Join Iowa River Hospice to share and discuss caregiver support, grief support, advance directives and legal questions, and healthcare decision-making for yourself or your loved ones. This monthly support group is ideal for seniors, families, and caregivers. Support group meetings take place on the last Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the Newton Public Library. All group meetings are free to attend and open to the public. New topics discussed every month! The April topic is seniors and diabetes.

Wondering what to read next? Check out our FREE monthly mystery bags for adults! Mystery bags have a different theme every month and contain a surprise selection of 4-5 books and an adult craft. Return the library books when you’re done with them - keep the craft! The May theme is “Staff Picks” and includes a selection of our staff’s favorite books from a wide variety of authors and genres. The craft is a decorated May basket. Registration opens April 29. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+

Gory Stories Book Club

Do you love true crime? Join our monthly Gory Stories Book Club! Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to discuss a new book each month and share our favorite books, podcasts, & documentaries! Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk. The May book selection is “One Child” by Torey Hayden.

Iowa’s Amazing Garden Stories: How Iowa Gardeners Changed the Course of History

Tuesday, May 7, 5:30 p.m.

Did you know that the Delicious apple, 4-H, hybrid corn, Earl May Garden Centers, Better Homes & Gardens and other innovations with state and national impact have their roots in Iowa? Author and historian Darcy Maulsby will share these fascinating stories during a 1-hour program that’s sure to inspire and entertain you, complete with her list of top gardens to visit in Iowa for your next road trip. This program is free to attend and is open to the public.

Blues Under the Blue Roof

Thursday, May 9, 5 p.m.

Steve E. George performs at our final Blues Under the Blue Roof concert of 2024! This event is held in the library meeting room and is free to attend. All ages welcome. This concert series is made possible by the South Skunk Blues Society, The Arts Connection, and the Newton Public Library Foundation.

Summer Plant Swap

Plant Drop-off: June 10 – 12

Plant Swap: Thursday, June 13, 5 – 6:30 p.m.

Pick up something green at our summer plant swap! Drop off your extra or unwanted plants at the library June 10 - 12 and pick up a swap ticket for each plant you bring in. Donations may include houseplants, flowers, vegetables, perennials, and annuals. Bring your tickets back on June 13 between 5 - 6:30 p.m. to exchange them for new plants to take home! Plants must be healthy, rooted in soil, and include identification.
