Hawk softball team cruises past West Marshall

STATE CENTER — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks stacked up a second victory in as many nights on the softball field to start the 2020 season. Both wins came on the road.

The Hawks, ranked No. 6 in Class 1A, used a four-run third inning to gain the advantage over host West Marshall (1-1) on Tuesday. Lynnville-Sully added three in the top of the seventh for a 7-1 victory. The Trojans plated their run in the bottom of the seventh.

Lynnville-Sully junior pitcher Denali Conover (2-0) threw a four-hitter against the Trojans. She walked four batters, hit one batter and struck out three. The Hawk defense had three errors.

Conover hit a solo home run in the contest. Junior Cayler Noun Harder had a single and a double while junior Korinne Jansen and senior Mallory Loftus each hit two singles and had two stolen bases.

Hitting a single apiece were seniors Kaleah Ehresman and Janelle Rozendaal and junior Laci Keen. Ehresman and Rozendaal each had a stolen bases.

Sophomore Reagan McFarland drove in two runs and junior Caitlin Alberts had one RBI.

The Hawks are 2-0 on the season. They are 1-0 in South Iowa Cedar League play and host Sigourney in a 6 p.m. SICL game on Wednesday at Sully
