Betty Joann Modlin

Betty Joann Modlin, 78, of Kellogg, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. A graveside service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Rock Creek Cemetery. Memorials to Jasper County Nutrition may be left at the graveside or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Betty, the daughter of Homer “Bud” and Velma (Johnson) Hinshaw, was born April 18, 1941. She graduated from Kellogg High School and Cosmetology School in Des Moines. Betty was united in marriage with Hoy Modlin and they made their lifelong home in Kellogg. Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching football.

Betty is survived by her children, Dr. Josh (Karie) Modlin of Urbandale and Lori Wearmouth of Newton; grandchildren, Tai Graf, Kendra Cupples and Gracyn Modlin; many great-grandchildren including Luke and Isaac Andrew; and her brother, Roger (Joan) Hinshaw of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hoy Modlin; daughter, Molly Moore; grandson, Brendan O’Brien; three brothers, Gary “Tuff” Hinshaw, Robert “Hoop” Hinshaw and Gerald “Babe” Hinshaw; and her significant other, Cass Sharp.
