Newton Police Department
• Taggart L. Stanley, 28, reportedly homeless, was charged with two counts of fifth-degree theft at 12:55 a.m. Feb. 15. According to Newton police, an officer was called to Walmart for a theft. Upon arrival, the officer learned Stanley allegedly left the store without paying for a trash can and a storage chest, valued at $41.30. Two employees showed the officer a photo of Stanley leaving the store with the items. Stanley was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
• Zachery M. Lambertus, 19, of Newton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:36 p.m. Friday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to Git ‘N Go for a domestic fight. Upon arrival, officers talked to Lambertus, who was giving off an odor of marijuana. When asked about the odor, Lambertus allegedly pulled a bottle of marijuana and a pipe out of his pocket. Lambertus was arrested, received a citation summoning him to appear in court and was released.
• James W. Riddle, 38, of Creston, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 11:04 p.m. Friday. According to Newton police, officers were on patrol in the 100 block of East Fourth Street South when they saw a white Chrysler Sebring traveling with a broken brake light. After stopping vehicle, an officer spoke to Riddle and detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle Riddle admitted to using marijuana 10 minutes earlier and the officer found the end of a marijuana cigarette in his coat pocket after searching him. Riddle was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
