Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Newton Campus Court Reporting graduate Maggie DeRocher, of LeMars, has received a $1,000 national scholarship from the National Court Reporting Association (NCRA) Council on Approved Student Education (CASE). She was chosen from among students across the United States and Canada.
DeRocher started the DMACC Court Reporting program in August 2015.
“I’m so honored to be a recipient of the CASE scholarship,” DeRocher tells the Journal of Court Reporting, the NCRA weekly journal. “It’s great motivation to continue to constantly learn and grow in this great profession.”
DeRocher was one of three students nationwide to receive CASE scholarships. Applicants were required to be current students at a NCRA-approved court reporting program, hold student membership with NCRA, write between 140-180 words per minute and submit three recommendation forms, among other criteria.
Scholarship recipients will be formally announced at the 2017 NCRA Convention & Expo in Las Vegas.
“We are so proud of Maggie,” said DMACC Court Reporting Department Chair Patti Ziegler.
“Maggie has made outstanding progress in our court reporting program. In two years, she met all requirements for graduation as well as both state and national certification requirements. She has several job offers and will soon begin working as an official court reporter”
