Skiff Medical Center has named an interim president following the upcoming resignation of CEO Brett Altman.
Laurie Conner was tapped to fill the temporary position in her second stint as a leader at Skiff.
The current Vice President of Business Development at Mercy Medical Center, Conner previously held the position of interim Chief Administrative Officer at Skiff in late 2014 as a part of the transition to a Mercy affiliated hospital.
Also during that time, Conner served as the lead representative of Mercy Medical Center during the initial assessment and subsequent integration process at Skiff. She provided an important link and connection point to the Mercy Health Network and assisted with strategic questions as Skiff made the affiliation transition in 2015.
Conner previously worked as the administrator and vice president of Mercy West Lakes where she built the team and operational processes for Mercy’s new West Des Moines hospital. Prior to her work at Mercy, Conner served nine years as the CEO at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry.
She is taking over for Altman who announced his intentions to leave in October. Altman accepted the CEO position at Cass County Health System in Atlantic, located about 80 miles west of Des Moines.
Conner is currently in Newton two days a week through the month of November during a transition period with Altman. Altman’s last day at Skiff is scheduled for Jan. 2.
