'Downton Abbey'
What was life really like below stairs at a place like Highclere Castle? Would a maid really help hide a body to preserve the reputation of her mistress? Could a chauffer ever marry an Earl's daughter? At 6 p.m. Monday, historian Kathy Wilson will answer these questions and discuss the truth vs. the television of "Downton Abbey." This program is free and open to the public.
Dog-Eared Art Contest
Give your old and damaged books new life as literary art. Create a unique work of art using books for a chance to win an art inspired prize basket. Entries will be placed on display in the library lobby July 1-15. All entries are due no later than July 1. This program is for ages 13 and older. ‘What Plants Need to Grow’ Youth Program
Join us at 1 p.m. Tuesday as the Jasper County Farm Bureau presents a storytime and program on how plants grow. Children will identify the basic needs of plants and plant their own bean seeds. Ages preschool and up. Please contact Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108 to register.
Alumni Author Book Signing
Drop in anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday to meet Newton authors and discover local literature, history and art. Artist Jaci Thomason will also offer limited edition Newton coloring books created from her line drawings of the town.
Newton Fest Guest Author: Jennifer Wilson
At 6 p.m. Thursday, local author, Jennifer Wilson, will discuss her memoir, "Running Away to Home," and her latest novel, "Water." "Running Away to Home" won the American Society of Journalists and Authors Best Nonfiction Book of 2011 award.

Walking Tour
Tour the historic downtown churches of Newton with local historian, Larry Hurto, on June 11. The tour will meet at the main library entrance at 2 p.m.. This event is free and open to the public.
