COLO — Both Collins-Maxwell/Baxter and Colfax-Mingo tasted a little bit of success Thursday night during a girls triangular golf meet at Twin Anchors Golf Course.
CMB played its best round of the season and won easily, while Colfax-Mingo freshman Delaney Underwood won another individual title.
Underwood and CMB’s Brynne Pritchard each shot a 52 on the day, but Underwood won medalist honors because of a cardback. The Raiders also got a 53 from Courtney Clapper, and they shot a 224 to win by 42 shots.
“We finished with by far our best team score of the year,” CMB coach Zach Hasselbrink said. “That was really nice to see. The girls have been working on their swings and have made great improvement.”
The Tigerhawks shot a 266, while Colo-NESCO also played but had just one golfer.
Payton Cory had a 57 for the Raiders, while Katie Garber was the final counting score. Abbie Ericson had a non-counting score of 65.
“We still have a lot to work on,” Hasselbrink said. “I saw too many three putts. That is something we definitely need to focus on in the coming weeks. All of the girls had a couple of “blow up” holes which I am sure they wish they could get back. We just need to find a way to eliminate the bad shots and be more consistent throughout the course.”
Colfax-Mingo’s other counting scores came from Camilla Schlasser (62), Skye Weber (67) and Jasmine Riley (85).
The Tigerhawks were 54 strokes better as a team than it was in its previous meet.
Halley Buseman, who was part of CMB’s golf team last year when it shared with Colo-NESCO, carded a 63 for the Royals.
The Raiders host Roland-Story at 4 p.m. Friday at Twin Anchors Golf Course. Colfax-Mingo hosts Belle Plaine at 4 p.m. Monday at Colfax Country Club.
