Outdoors Without Boundaries Banquet is Saturday

More than 100 items available for auction or raffle

Central Iowa Outdoors Without Boundaries is holding its annual banquet to raise funds for events in the upcoming year.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge, 2233 S. 24th Ave. W., with the live auction taking place at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the dinner are $15 each or $25 per couple. For those 12 and under ticket cost is $7.50.

The funds raised will be used to help those with physical limitations or disabilities enjoy the outdoors on turkey hunts, fishing outings at Rock Creek as well as duck, pheasant hunts and deer hunting.

The evening will have a dinner as well as both silent and live auctions. Raffles will also take place and games, such as Texas Hold’em and Plinko, will provide entertainment and give additional opportunities to win prizes.

Among the items available at the auction are a stainless steel grill and 10 gun Firesafe vault. Other items include a shotgun shell wreath, wildlife prints, tools, cast iron metal collectible cars, barbecue sets, two heavy gage vaults, tree stands, harnesses, bags, gun cases, hunting blinds, camouflage coolers, binoculars, a stealth camera, fish fryer and many more. In total, Foster said there are more than 100 items up for auction or raffle.

To fulfill the organization’s goal to assist those with physical limitations enjoy the outdoors, the funds are also used to purchase specialized equipment for any limitation.

“We have specialized equipment to help with whatever the limitation is. We have someone who is paraplegic who hunts with us and we purchased a device that hooks up to his chair and allows him to move his gun, shoot the gun and do it all himself,” member Ed Foster said.

Held for more than 15 years, CIOWB President Joe Carmichael does not know exactly how much money is raised at the banquet every year, but they always have enough for the events throughout the year.

“We raise enough that we are able to take everyone who wants to go to all of the events,” Carmichael said.

For those who would like to donate, but are unable to attend the event, an early bird raffle is taking place for a camouflage freezer with $300 worth of meat. Tickets are currently available for $5 and can be purchased at the Rialto Barber Shop, 114 First Ave. E.
