Christmas week. It is here and I am almost ready. But one of my biggest hang-ups to really getting in the holiday spirit is the weather.
As an adult, I am not a huge fan of snow. Mostly, it makes my life harder and colder. Snow means my girls have to be extra bundled up and have an extremely high chance of falling into it, which leads to tears and wet mittens.
The only time that I welcome the white stuff is in the days leading up to Christmas. With the current forecast calling for highs in the 40s, I don’t think my daughter will get her wish of snow.
Overall, I can deal with it, but even with Christmas lights hanging, holiday songs on the radio and my house full of decorations, the gray, dreary sky and puddles in the streets makes it feel a lot more like early spring than four days until Santa comes.
Snow is obviously not a requirement for Christmas and it almost every other category of the season I am ready. We have had two Christmas concerts in the past couple weeks where the girls wore their new dresses and sang their hearts out, much to the entertainment of the crowd.
I am done shopping, kind of. The girls, my husband, our parents, all but one nephew and even our dog have presents ready. I have a couple of last minute teacher and child care provider gifts to snag and I will be golden.
Wrapping on the other hand is far from complete. It is one of those things I sit down to do, expecting it to take about an hour and an hour and a half later I have barely touched the pile.
I bought special paper for each kiddo for their presents from Santa. That paper is still in its own wrapping with gifts in store bags waiting to get covered. I honestly don’t know if I will get it to before Christmas Even, but here’s hoping.
This year we decided to wrap a few presents to the girls from my husband and I and put the under the tree before the big day. So far, I would say it has been more a struggle than a success.
Like magnets, the girls immediately saw presents with their names on them and wanted to open them. After explaining they are for Christmas day we still got quite a bit of feedback and have had daily discussions on why we can’t open them now. I’m hoping this exercise will lead to more patience but I have my doubts.
Even without snow, I think the girls are ready for Dec. 25. We saw Santa, rode the Christmas train, decorated our tree and made cookies, which didn’t turn out too bad. Now as long as I can get everything together I think we will have another successful year.
