Rep. Kelley endorses O’Malley for president

Iowa State Representative Dan Kelley (D-Newton) endorsed former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley for President Tuesday.

Kelley praised O’Malley’s bold and progressive approach to building upon the advances made in Iowa on wind and renewable energy jobs as one of the main factors for his endorsement.

“Martin O’Malley has a forward-thinking and aggressive energy plan that will keep our wind industry strong, continue to grow and protect jobs in Jasper County, and build a clean energy economy throughout our country,” Kelley said. “O’Malley is the best presidential candidate to build an economy that works for all of us, and turn to the fight against climate change into an economic opportunity. O’Malley is the right choice for president to make Jasper County an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Kelley, who is the ranking member of the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Budget Subcommittee, is committed to energy and environmental issues.

“One of my biggest priorities in the Iowa legislature has been water quality and environmental enhancement. Gov. O’Malley’s work in Maryland proves he has both progressive values on environmental issues — but also the record of getting things done to back them up,” Kelley said. “Gov. O’Malley’s success in cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay is a testament to what can be done with strong executive leadership.”

Kelley also noted O’Malley’s collaborative approach to governing and commended his commitment to education in Maryland.

“O’Malley is about actions, not words. He invested in education in Maryland and focused on increasing learning to better educate the next generation of workers,” Kelley concluded. “That’s the kind of approach we need here in Iowa, and around our country to rebuild the American Dream.”
