Skiff Medical Center is excited to announce the addition of a new orthopedic partnership with the Iowa Orthopaedic Center, commonly referred to as “Iowa Ortho.” Iowa Ortho is one of Iowa’s premier orthopedic specialty groups, with the majority of its providers certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and fellowship-trained in their sub-specialty.
“Seamless orthopedic coverage for our Jasper County residents has been a priority for Skiff Medical Center,” Skiff CEO Brett Altman said. “and it will be wonderful to welcome our new colleagues to the medical staff as we enhance this key service for our community.”
Three physicians from Iowa Ortho will provide services in Newton: Dr. Michael Gainer (upper extremity, hand), Dr. Thomas Ambrose (fracture care, total joint replacement) and Dr. Christopher Vincent (sports medicine, knee and shoulder arthroscopy). A longer-term goal will be to recruit a full-time orthopedist in addition to these sub-specialists.
The new physicians will begin seeing patients in the Skiff Orthopedic Clinic on Tuesday. This will allow for a one-month overlap with present orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ronald Charles who, after decades of service to Newton and Jasper County, will be leaving Skiff effective Sept. 30 to embark upon semi-retirement.
“Dr. Charles has been an incredible asset to our community,” Altman said. “We are grateful for the many lives he has touched, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors. We are also pleased we will be able to carry on the tradition of excellent orthopedics service that he has established, so that our patients will continue to receive the best care.”
