Car fire on I-80

The Newton Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at about 10:25 a.m. Friday along Interstate 80 in Newton. Newton Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik said only a fire extinguisher was needed to put it out. There were three occupants in the car that experienced some sort of engine malfunction, which caused a fire that completely destroyed the engine. No one was injured, and the department transported three people to Love’s Truck Stop, where they had a ride waiting.
