Skiff Medical Center and the City of Newton were the big winners at the 3rd Annual Newton Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and Christmas Party Thursday. Hosted by the Iowa Speedway, Newton Chamber Director Craig Light presented the awards sponsored by several businesses in the community.
“There are so many well deserving business and organizations in our community. The awards selection committee really struggled and had a hard time because there were so many good candidates,” Light said.
Skiff Medical Center won both the Non-Profit Achievement Award and the Community Champion Award. The City of Newton won the Social Media and Marketing Awards for its work on the Get to Know Newton campaign. City Management Analyst Natalie Umsted accepted the award on behalf of the city.
“As business owners in the Newton community, you have just seen an onslaught of Facebook and all sorts of social media things that have been going on with the city of Newton and from the Get to Know Newton Facebook page,” Light said. “The City of Newton has been doing advertising throughout the region not just in our community. They are marketing their best for our betterment for our entire community.”
For the Curb Appeal Award, Park Centre picked up the recognition for the work it has done around the building with landscaping and exterior beautification. The Dental Practice received the Staff Development Award which Dr. Steven Rabedeaux accepted. The Retail Award — Small Business was awarded to Beaded Needle and the Retail Award — Large Business went to Farver True Value.
Jimmy Small, President of Iowa Speedway, made opening remarks, presented the 2015 speedway schedule and highlighted different amenities it offers for group events. A special thank you was given to Margot Voshell, director of marketing and sales at Park Centre, for her work organizing the event. Pam DeBruyn from the Newton Daily News was also thanked for her work in setting up the lighted parade.
