Emergency warning siren testing will be performed from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 as city staff work to determine the best placement of emergency warning sirens in northeast Newton. Staff is working with a sales representative to demonstrate a 130 decibel emergency warning siren to determine the best location and needs of the community.
The siren may be set off several times the afternoon of Oct. 17. Citizens should not be alarmed of any pending disaster as this is only a test. If severe weather is imminent, the testing will be rescheduled and citizens should heed any warning.
