Iowa Speedway today announced the City of Newton as the title sponsor of its May 18 NASCAR Nationwide Series race — the Get to Know Newton 250 presented by Sherwin-Williams — the highlight of the track’s much-anticipated “Wide-Opening Weekend.”
New excitement and energy surround Iowa Speedway following NASCAR’s purchase of the track last fall, a fresh approach that is a natural fit with the City of Newton — the track’s hometown — and its recently-launched “Get to Know Newton” brand marketing campaign.
"The City of Newton is, and has been, a tremendous supporter of Iowa Speedway since it was built,” said Jimmy Small, track president. “We consider this entitlement an investment in Newton and are excited to provide our community the opportunity to deliver its message in the national spotlight on a grand stage.
“We’re extremely proud of this association with Newton and not only consider this an investment in our hometown, but also the fulfillment of a pledge made to the state of Iowa that NASCAR is committed to Iowa Speedway and its fans for the long-term, starting right here with our own community,” Small said.
Mayor Michael Hansen expressed enthusiasm on behalf of Newton along with the opportunity to showcase its local products, businesses and events. “Newton has so many great amenities — excellent schools, unique entertainment venues, outstanding parks and an ideal location,” Hansen said. “However many people don’t know about them. Iowa Speedway’s investment in our campaign will ensure that people across the state, region and country will have the chance to get to know Newton.”
Presenting sponsor Sherwin-Williams, the nation’s largest specialty retailer of paint and painting supplies, is the “Official Paint of NASCAR.” Sherwin-Williams, a FORTUNE 500 company, will leverage its designation to provide paint for the logos and signage around Iowa Speedway during “Wide-Opening Weekend” to ignite the passion of its customers — many of whom are fiercely brand-loyal fans of NASCAR.
“We’re committed to bringing a new and unique experience to our fans at Iowa Speedway,” Small said. “Mayor Hansen and the citizens of Newton are highlighting our city in a similar fashion. Together, we see this partnership as an incredibly valuable tool to promote local businesses in a natural environment and authentic manner.”
“Wide-Opening Weekend” kicks off at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 17, with the Casey’s General Stores 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series event, an exciting combination race between the stars of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West. On Sunday, May 18, the Get to Know Newton 250 presented by Sherwin-Williams will take center stage at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
