Falcons oust Eagles from 1A playoffs

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Pella Christian’s Eagles (4-6) weren’t able to stop St. Albert’s running game Wednesday night, losing 35-7 to the third-ranked and undefeated Falcons in Class 1A playoffs.

The Eagles’ lone touchdown came with 1:40 remaining in the game. Senior running back Mason Howerzyl, who rushed 122 yards on 24 carries, scored on a two-yard run. Junior Jacob Brouwer kicked the extra point.

The Falcons got four touchdowns and a two-point conversion from senior running back Jacob Bendgen, who rushed for 205 yards on 17 carries. He had scoring runs of two, 40 and 61 yards in the first half and a 54-yard dash to the end zone in the third quarter.

It was 20-0 at halftime. St. Albert’s Ryan Hansen ran the second-half kickoff back 93 yards for a touchdown.
