Six American elm trees were planted on the Courthouse lawn, two more on the grounds of Skiff Hospital and two Scarlet Hawthorne trees at Sunset Park. The trees were a gift of Mrs. Frank P. (Blanche) Ross of Chicago, a former Newton resident (she was the daughter of Vernon & Mary Frances Skiff, and sister of the founder of the Jewel Tea Co.
