Municipal Band to perform on Fourth

The Newton Municipal Band will perform its third concert of the summer Thursday, July 4, on the square immediately following the parade.

The band, which will be set up on the west side of the courthouse, will play a variety of patriotic tunes and marches appropriate for the occasion. Master of Ceremonies Fred Chabot will deliver narration for the piece “Duty, Honor, Country” by MacArthur, Cook and Walters. Past and present members of the armed forces will be honored as the band plays Armed Forces Salute arranged by Bob Lowden.

Other pieces selected for the day include “Military Escort March,” “On a Hymnsong of Lowell Mason,” “On Wings of Eagles Concert March,” “America the Beautiful,” “Hosts of Freedom March” and, as always, the national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” The band will be under the baton of Dan Stecker, director of bands for the Pleasantville Community School District.
