Cardinal boys tennis fifth at conference
The Newton boys tennis team scored 20 points to finish fifth out of six teams at the Little Hawkeye Conference tennis meet in Norwalk on Monday.
The weather-shortened spring season showed itself in the meet, as the Cardinals lost winnable matches to opponents from Oskaloosa and Knoxville, both of which were scheduled for meets last week.
“I’m very happy with how the guys played. They showed a lot of determination during their matches,” Newton coach Seth Banwell said. “We faced some really tough competition early in the season and made remarkable progress throughout the season. It’s crazy how much the team’s skills developed in such a short amount of time.”
