Tigerhawks’ upset bid falls short in Van Meter

Despite a strong start, the Colfax-Mingo boys basketball team’s season came to an end in the first round of Class 2A district play Monday night.

The Tigerhawks got off to a 9-0 lead to start the game, but eventually fell 57-51to host Van Meter. The teams battled to an 11-11 tie at the end of the first quarter before the Bulldogs took a 23-21 lead at halftime. After another tie, 13-13, in the third quarter, Van Meter pulled away with a 21-17 fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Colfax-Mingo finishes the season with a 7-16 record overall and won four out of its last six games.

This year’s team included six seniors. One of them, Vaugh Wilson, led the team in points per game (21) and rebounds (9.5). Fellow senior Connor Hainer also averaged double digits with 12.8 point per game, as well as 5.8 rebounds.
