UPC honoring local law enforcement, firefighters

The United Presbyterian Church is hosting a brunch to honor local law enforcement officers and firefighters at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.

The brunch will include a free offering meal and will be followed by a presentation of the movie “Courageous.” During the movie showing, childcare will be provided at no charge by the youth of the church. This event is not only for public safety personnel but for anyone who is, has been or ever will be either a parent or couple, father or mother.

“Courageous” was released in September 2011 and is about a group of deputies who are confident and focused. But no matter how good they are at their jobs, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. When tragedy strikes home, these men are left actively wrestling with their hopes, their fears and their fathering. The deputies bond together and decide to take a stand against culture and the pressures that their children (and one of their own) are tempted by.

Both scripture and statistics reveal that there is no more important role in a child’s life than that of his or her father.

Register for the event no later than Saturday by calling Mike Crowe at (641) 521- 2653 or the United Presbyterian Church at (641) 792-4158.
