Residents reminded to keep hydrants clear of snow

Due to the recent snowstorm, Newton Fire Department officials are reminding local residents to keep their fire hydrants clear of snow in order to avoid delays in getting the adequate water supply in the event of an emergency.

Residents are asked to clear a minimum of three feet around the hydrant so the fire department can have easy access incase the hydrant as needed.

The fire department also reminds residents to keep their fireplaces and wood burners clean and, if using additional heat sources, to ensure that they are being used safe and properly.
