GRINNELL — Jackson Price finished fourth and Carter Forst fired a career-best score, but the Newton boys golf team finished second after host Grinnell grabbed the first three positions in the standings at Grinnell College Golf Course.
The Cardinals finished with a 331, which was their second-best score of the season.

Grinnell won the meet with a 305 and the rest of the field included Lisbon (349) and Carlisle (356). South Tama County did not have enough golfers for a team score.
“We had a slow start, but the guys locked in and finished strong,” Newton head boys golf coach Pat Riley said. “We have some course management issues we need to correct.”

Price fired a 77 in fourth and Forst finished seventh with a career-best 80. The other two counting scorers were Peyton Rozendaal (85) in 12th and Mason Smith (89) in 15th. Lincoln Peterson (93) and Grant Osby (96) had non-counting scores.
“These guys have the ability to hit good shots but sometimes put themselves in terrible positions,” Riley said. “That makes it harder to par. We will continue to clean some things up.”
