PELLA — The Newton boys golf team edged Oskaloosa at Bos Landen Golf Course on Tuesday, but the Cardinals are still in fourth place in the Little Hawkeye Conference after two 18-hole rounds.
Newton turned in a 352 in the latest round and trails Oskaloosa by two strokes after 36 holes.
“We did not play so well today,” Newton head boys golf coach Pat Riley said. “We have some growing pains to work through, but I still believe this team has a high ceiling.”

The Indians shot 354 on Tuesday and have a 690 through two rounds.
Pella was the meet champion in the latest round after firing a 310 and Pella Christian shot a 314 in second. The Eagles lead the LHC tournament after two rounds with a 620 and the Dutch sit second at 630.
The rest of the six-team field at the par 72 Bos Landen Golf Course included Pleasantville (336) and Albia (340).
Jackson Price has finished in the top 10 in both LHC meets so far. He placed eighth with a 79 on Tuesday and is currently fifth with a 156 after 36 holes.

Peyton Rozendaal (85), Lincoln Peterson (91) and Mason Smith (97) were the other scorers, while Grant Osby (98) and Carter Forst (103) had non-counting scores.
Pella’s Gabe Clark (75) and Cole Floden (76) were the meet medalist and runner-up medalist, respectively. But they are in eighth and sixth, respectively, after two rounds.
Pella’s Kyler Besick still leads the overall individual competition with a two-round total of 146. He was sixth on Tuesday with a 78.
Pella Christian’s Eliot Menninga turned in back-to-back 77s and is currently second at 154.

Short-handed Cardinals finish sixth at Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — Price used a strong back nine to finish third overall and the Cardinals placed sixth at the Tater Tough Invitational on Wednesday.
The Cardinals shot 346 but were without senior varsity regulars Rozendaal and Peterson due to senior exit interviews.
“(Price) had a solid back nine to climb all the way to third place,” Riley said. “Ethan Pageler and Carter Forst played much better today. We still have some work to do.”
Host Williamsburg won the meet championship with a 325 at the par 71 Stone Creek Golf Club. Oskaloosa (330), Mount Vernon (335), Mid-Prairie (336) and Keota (342) completed the top five.

Newton led the next group and the rest of the 10-team featured Benton Community (353), Williamsburg JV (357), Clear Creek-Amana (362) and Anamosa (362).
Price shot a 79 in third. Keota’s Brennan McGuire was the meet medalist with a 5-over-par 76. Williamsburg’s Robbie Allison was the runner-up with a 78.
Forst shot an 87, Pageler posted an 89 and Smith turned in a 91 to complete Newton’s scoring golfers. Lane Rozendaal (99) and Osby (102) had non-counting scores.
It was Lane Rozendaal’s first varsity round since 2023.
