SULLY — Tatum Huyser won three events, the Hawks registered 11 top-three finishes and the Lynnville-Sully girls track and field team placed second at its home meet on April 8.
The Hawks scored 124 points at the L-S Hawk Coed Track and Field Invitational and trailed only Class 2A Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
“It was a great night for the Hawks at their first home meet,” L-S head girls track and field coach Kevin Johnson said. “The Hawks did a lot of good things to start the season and finished behind a talented Eddyville-Blakesburg team.”

EBF scored 160 points at the top of the standings. The Hawks were in front of every South Iowa Cedar League team in the field and Pleasantville (79) was fifth.
HLV (108), North Mahaska (103), Sigourney (60), Colfax-Mingo (54) and BGM (33) completed the eight-team field.
Huyser won the 100- and 200-meter dash, placed third in the high jump and anchored the 4x200 relay to a win.
She won the 100 in 13.09 seconds and Morgan Hay was sixth in 14.23. Huyser’s winning time in the 200 was clocked in 27.45 and Brilynn Tice finished fourth in 30.12.
The other wins came in the 4x200 and 4x800 relays.

Kenna Johnson, Hay, Tice and Huyser posted a season-best time of 1 minute, 58.06 seconds to win the 4x200 relay.
The 4x800 relay team included Brooke Harthoorn, Olivia Norrish, Kate Harthoorn and Peyton Sharp and they won the race in 10:52.41.
Johnson, Hay, Cori Fikse and Tice placed second in the 4x100 in 55.97 and the quartet of Kate Harthoorn, Emma Parkinson, Brooke Harthoorn and Isabelle Vos was third in the 4x400 in 4:46.8.
The other runner-up finishes came from Vos in the long jump and Mandeesa Vos in the 1,500.
Isabelle Vos won the long jump with a career-best leap of 15 feet, 5 inches and Hay was fourth with a jump of 13-10.

Mandeesa Vos was second in the 1,500 with a time of 5:31.48 and Norrish placed fifth in 5:53.87.
Mandeesa Vos and Parkinson went 3-5 in the 3,000. They posted career-best times of 11:42.33 and 11:47.44, respectively.
Isabelle Vos secured third in the 400 with a career-best time 1:05.8, Huyser placed third in the high jump with a leap of 5-0 and Parkinson (2:44.43) and Sharp (2:48.14) produced a 4-6 finish in the 800.
Hawks finish third at Burdell Hensley Invitational
EDDYVILLE — Huyser collected both of the Hawks’ victories, and L-S piled up nine second- or third-place finishes during the Burdell Hensley Invitational on April 10.
The Hawks scored 116 points in third. East Marshall won the meet title with 133 points and host EBF was the runner-up with 121.

The rest of the eight-team field included Van Buren (96), Clarke (90), Pleasantville (86), Cardinal (71) and Twin Cedars (3).
“The meet started with some wet and windy conditions, but the Hawks battled the elements and good competition all night,” Coach Johnson said. “We’ll continue to look to build off our first week of meets as we move forward.”
Huyser won the high jump with a leap of 4-10 and she took first in the 200 in 26.64. Her runner-up time in the 100 was clocked in 13.02.
L-S had four second-place finishes. Kate Harthoorn (1:09.34) was second in the 400, Norrish (12:53.97) took second in the 3,000 and Morgan Hay led a 2-3 finish in the long jump with a career-best leap of 14-5. Isabelle Vos was third in the long jump with a mark of 14-1 1/4.
The other third-place finishes came from Parkinson in the 800 and the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

Parkinson (2:45.03) led a 3-5 finish in the 800 and Norrish (2:51.88) was fifth. Sharp (5:53.52) finished fourth in the 1,500, Mandeesa Vos posted a career-best time of 1:24.64 to place fifth in the 400 hurdles and Sophia Squires (26-9 1/2) ended up sixth in the shot put.
Isabelle Vos, Brooke Harthoorn, Tice and Huyser were third in the 4x200 in 2:00.10.
The 4x400 relay team of Isabelle Vos, Norrish, Brooke Harthoorn and Kate Harthoorn finished third in 4:43.32 and Mandeesa Vos, Parkinson, Isabelle Vos and Sharp ended up third in the 4x800 relay in 10:58.93.
“It was a good night overall for the Hawks,” Coach Johnson said. “We did a lot of good things and continue to improve as athletes and as a team.”
