PELLA — Terran Gosselink claimed the Hawks’ lone win, Connor Deal grabbed the only runner-up finish and the Lynnville-Sully boys track and field team placed third in a pair of relays during the Pella Christian Invitational on Tuesday.
The Hawks faced a tough field at the top of the standings but placed third with 81 points. That was five points better than host Pella Christian (76) and L-S also bested Pleasantville (55), Iowa City Regina (45.5), Centerville (44) and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (35).
Class 3A Pella won the meet title with 252 points and 2A PCM was second with 130.5.

Gosselink won the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 57.51 seconds. Sawyer Veldhuizen doubled up in the event with a fifth-place finish in a career-best 1 minute, 0.97 seconds.
Gosselink also helped the Hawks score double points in the high jump. Deal placed second in the event with a leap of 6 feet, 0 inches and Gosselink took sixth with a mark of 5-4.
The next best individual finish came from Dawson James in the shot put. He was fourth with a career-best toss of 45-1.
Ethan Dunsbergen was fifth in the 400 in 56.33, Madden Gunsaulus placed fifth in the 3,000 in 12:29.17 and Deal took sixth in the 110 high hurdles in a career-best 16.73.
Colton Alberts posted a career-best time of 2:14.03 to take sixth in the 800 and Blake Wilmesmeier turned in a career-best 5:01.72 in the 1,600 and finished seventh.

The Hawks took third in the distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays.
Jordan Dunsbergen, Trace Carlson, Sam Terlouw and Wilmesmeier finished the distance medley relay in 4:06.88 and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Matthew Mintle, Gosselink, Veldhuizen and Deal posted a time of 1:06.59.
