White headlines Newton girls at Jane Astor Relays

Cardinals post new season-best time in shuttle hurdle relay

TIFFIN — The Newton girls track and field team took a small contingent of athletes to the Jane Astor Relays on Friday, and the Cardinals’ shuttle hurdle relay team bettered its season-best time and Tori White moved into the top 10 in the high jump in Class 3A.

The meet was hosted by Clear Creek-Amana and Newton’s shuttle hurdle relay team won the race in 1 minute, 7.88 seconds with Camryn Klein, Macy Lampe, Mack Sims and White. It currently ranks second in 3A and 11th in the state.

White tied for second in the high jump and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles.

She posted a season-best mark of 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump, which ranks tied for ninth in 3A.

White’s runner-up finish in the 100 hurdles came with a time of 16.4 seconds. Klein also competed and finished 10th in 17.78 in her prep debut.

Sims was the other individual participant, and she took 11th in the long jump with a season-best leap of 15-0 1/2.
