INDIANOLA — Ethan Valtman improved to 3-0 in singles and Kaden Marshall won both of his matches for the night, but the Newton boys tennis team fell 7-4 to Indianola on Thursday night.
The Cardinals and Indians were tied at 3-all after singles, but Indianola finished 4-1 in doubles to claim the Little Hawkeye Conference victory.
Valtman needed three sets to stay unbeaten, but he won 3-6, 6-2, 10-2 at No. 1 singles.

Kaden Marshall also won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Ethan Freese claimed a 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 victory at No. 4 singes.
The Cardinals’ only win in doubles came from Marshall and Ezra Bartell in the No. 2 spot. They swept their opponents 6-2, 6-2.
Brady Swihart and Damien Smith both lost tough three-set singles matches, while Bartell dropped his second set 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
Valtman and Freese suffered a narrow 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) loss at No. 1 doubles and Garett Crandall and Gentry Swarts dropped a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 4 doubles.
Newton, which is still without No. 2 singles player Evan Marshall, fell to 1-2 and 0-2 in the conference, while Indianola improved to 3-2 and 2-0.
