Big second half lifts Newton girls past Boone

Cardinals get first soccer win of 2025

BOONE — The Newton girls soccer team scored its first three goals of the season on Friday and it resulted in a 3-1 win over Boone during a non-conference road contest.

The Cardinals and Toreadors were scoreless at halftime, but Newton scored three goals on just four shots on goal to claim its first win of the season.

Aliviah Ross

Aliviah Ross made her season debut for the Cardinals and scored the 19th goal of her career. Payton Carkhuff added her sixth career goal and Merissa Schiebel tallied her third career goal in the win.

The team’s lone assist came from Sophia Coady. It was her first career assist and point. She leads the team in shots (6) and shots on goal (4) through three matches.

Newton (1-2) got 15 saves from Addy Cibula. She has 40 saves this season, which currently ranks second in Class 2A and fourth in the state.

It was Newton’s second straight win over the Toreadors (1-1), and the Cardinals are 11-2 in the series since 2012.
