Newton senior Kaylynn Harlow, seated center, signed with the DMACC competitive dance team on Tuesday. She was joined at the signing by her father Matthew Harlow, seated left, her mother Jennifer Honea, right, as well as (back row, from left) her sister Addison Harlow and DMACC head competitive dance coach Kelsey Gillespie. "I’m so grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of this team, and I’m excited to see what it brings to DMACC and to me," Kaylynn Harlow said. "When I saw they had a dance team, I was very interested because I’ve been dancing since I was 3 years old. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me." DMACC had a dance team about 15 years ago, but Gillespie is bringing the program back on a more competitive level. She hopes to have around 12 dancers on her first squad. "We have eight right now," Gillespie said. "I’m very excited to have Kaylynn. I met her when she came on a college visit with her mom, and I feel she would be a great asset to the team because she’s talented, kind, motivated and has a huge passion for dance. I feel that (Newton Pacesetters head coach) Graham (Sullivan) does a wonderful job working with high school dancers to prepare them for their future dance careers. The Newton Pacesetters have a positive reputation, and I’m very excited to have Kaylynn join us after her high school career." Harlow plans to major in Biology. (Troy Hyde/Newton News)
