Woods, Aller lead C-M track teams at Iowa State indoor

Tigerhawks post eight top-15 finishes at IATC Indoor Championships

AMES — Three high jumpers from Colfax-Mingo’s track and field teams finished in the top 15 at the IATC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday and Friday.

Xavier Woods led the Tigerhawks overall with a third-place finish, but Lexie Aller was seventh in the girls’ shot put and the Tigerhawks were ninth in the girls shuttle hurdle relay.

Woods’ bronze medal gave the C-M boys six team points, which resulted in a tie for 27th in the Class 1A division.

ACGC won the boys meet title with 59.5 points. Oakland Riverside (44) edged South Hamilton (43) for second and the rest of the top five included Iowa Valley (32) and Columbus Catholic (31).

The C-M girls scored two points on the Aller finish and that put the Tigerhawks in 34th. Council Bluffs St. Albert (44) edged Saint Ansgar (43) at the top of the 1A girls standings, while Danville (34), Madrid (31) and West Bend Mallard (29) completed the top five.

Woods’ third-place finish came in the high jump where he registered a leap of 5 feet, 11 inches.

The next best finish for the C-M boys came from Chase Trotter. He was 11th in the long jump with a leap of 18-2 3/4.

Sullivan Wilkins placed 12th in the 800-meter run. He was clocked in 2 minutes, 13.29 seconds.

Wilkins also anchored the distance medley relay to 13th. That group included Tony Buenrostro, Will Thornton, Trotter and Wilkins and they posted a time of 3:56.22, which was faster than any time the Tigerhawks ran last season.

Aller’s seventh-place throw in the shot put was marked at a career-best 33-4 3/4.

The other top-10 finish for the C-M girls came in the shuttle hurdle relay. The team of Trinity Smith, Jessa Purdie, Lily Anderson and Evalyn Anderson was ninth in 44.75 seconds.

Grace Hunsberger was 13th in the high jump and Katelyn Steenhoek finished 15th. They registered leaps of 4-9 and 4-7, respectively.

Ashlynn Hosbond was near the top 15 in the 1,500. She was 16th with a debut time of 5:38.83.
