AMES — The Baxter boys track and field team competed in six events at the IATC Indoor Championships on Thursday. And the Bolts finished in the top 10 in five of them.
Matt Richardson and Max Handorf posted top-10 finishes in the same two events, Logan Rainsbarger was eighth in the 60-meter hurdles and the trio teamed up with Eli Dee to take seventh in the distance medley.
All of that added up to 23 points and a seventh place team finish in the Class 1A boys standings.

The Bolts tied for seventh. ACGC won the 1A boys meet title with 59.5 points. Riverside (44) edged South Hamilton (43) for second and Iowa Valley (32) and Columbus Catholic (31) completed the top five.
The top finisher for the Bolts was Richardson, who was second in the 1,600-meter run. He was clocked in 4 minutes, 35.64 seconds. Handorf was fourth in a career-best 4:37.45.
Handorf took third in the 3,200. He hit the finish line in a career-best 10:03.74, while Richardson took eighth in 10:27.08.

Rainsbarger added another top-eight individual finish when he took eighth in the 60 hurdles in 9.31 seconds. He ran 9.04 in the prelims.
Lincoln Betterton also competed in the 60 hurdles and placed 11th in 9.24.
Rainsbarger, Dee, Handorf and Richardson grabbed a seventh-place tally in the distance medley relay. They were clocked in 3:49.21, which was faster than any time they posted last season.
Carter Smith was ninth in the shot put. His best throw was marked at a career-best 42 feet, 11 1/2 inches.
The Bolts also were top 15 in the 4x100 relay. They finished 14th in 47.69 with Rainsbarger, Coy Mergen, Maddux Tuhn and Dee.
