AMES — Reilly Trease was part of two top-three performances for the Newton boys track and field team at the IATC Indoor Championships on Thursday.
The Cardinals sent a small contingent of athletes to the campus of Iowa State University, scored 12 points and finished tied for 16th in the Class 3A competition.
Trease led the individuals with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles and led off the third-place shuttle hurdle relay squad.

The top six finishers earned medals and a spot on the podium.
Newton also got a 12th-place finish from Nick Thomason in the 60 dash and the 4x400 relay team placed 13th.
Pella (57) edged Algona (55) by two points at the top of the 3A standings and ADM (52) was close behind in third. Central DeWitt (46) and Waverly-Shell Rock (41) completed the top five.
Trease ran 8.73 seconds in the 60 hurdles preliminary round and qualified for the finals in fourth.

In the finals, Trease bettered his time to 8.52 and moved up to third.
Thomason sprinted to 12th in the 60 dash as his time was posted at 7.24.
Trease, Austin Arauz, Cade Bauer and Drew Bauer teamed up to place third in the shuttle hurdle relay. The Cardinal foursome was clocked in 34.85.
The Cardinals’ 4x400 relay team featured Ali Yahia, Dawson Maki, Colter Shaw and Arauz and they placed 13th with a time of 3 minutes, 43.59 seconds.
