Cardinal senior plans to run middle distance events for the Storm

Newton senior Bella Winther, seated center, signed with the Simpson College track and field team on Tuesday at the high school. She was joined at her signing by her mother Michelle Winther, her father Dave Winther, her brother Camden Winther (back row) and her sister-in-law Olivia Winther. Bella Winther chose the Storm over Central College. "I wasn’t really thinking about it at first but decided to take a visit," Winther said. "It was very welcoming, it felt very family oriented and I didn’t feel like just a number at some school. They took me in as the person who I am. It was a better option for schooling, too." Winther said she plans to run middle-distance events at Simpson College and will major in health and exercise science to become an occupational therapist. Winther signed with Simpson after Newton teammate Peyton Ray chose the Storm, too. "I’m just happy that I will know someone there," Winther said. "We may not always be together, but we’ll always be close by. That makes me feel a lot better." (Troy Hyde/Newton News)
