ADEL — A slow start and a huge night from an opposing player were too much for the Newton boys basketball team to overcome on Thursday night.
The Cardinals trailed Class 3A No. 7 ADM by double-digits after one quarter and never recovered during a 69-45 non-conference road loss.
Newton was plagued by 33 percent shooting from the floor, while ADM got 41 points from Hudson Lorensen.

The Tigers led 16-3 after one quarter and outscored Newton 21-12 in the third. It was just a two-point advantage for the hosts in the other two frames.
ADM (18-4) scored its second straight win over Newton, but the two teams have split 12 matchups since 2012.
Isaiah Slaughter scored 11 points and added two rebounds and three assists off the bench to lead Newton.
Landon Bozarth tallied eight points and four rebounds, Cade Bauer chipped in eight points and three boards and Dawson Maki totaled nine points.
