Tough shooting night plagues Cardinals in loss to Warriors

NORWALK — Cade Bauer made a trio of 3-pointers, Caden Klein grabbed 10 rebounds and Grant Osby had the best game of his prep career so far, but the Newton boys basketball team dropped its Little Hawkeye Conference contest to Norwalk on Tuesday.

Bauer put in 14 points, but the Cardinals struggled from the floor during a 56-41 road loss.

Newton shot 33 percent from the floor, made 5-of-18 from 3 and scored 79 points total in its two games against the Warriors this season. The Cardinals turned the ball over only nine times.

Norwalk (9-9, 7-4 in the LHC) won its seventh straight game against the Cardinals and improved to 32-5 against Newton since 2006.

Bauer’s 14 points and four rebounds led the Cardinals, who fell to 9-9 and 4-8 in the conference. He was 3-of-5 from 3.

Klein tallied seven points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks, Landon Bozarth pitched in four points, four boards, three assists and two steals and Grant Osby totaled a career-best eight points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench.

Creighton Andrew registered three points and three boards, Christian Ergenbright put in three points and Isaiah Slaughter pulled down two rebounds off the bench.
