DES MOINES — Alex Riney matched a career high for points and produced a double-double, Tori White also scored 14 points and the Newton girls basketball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 65-35 non-conference road win over Des Moines Lincoln on Saturday.
The Cardinals used a big first quarter to grab an advantage and cruised from there. They improved to 7-1 in non-conference games.
Riney matched a career-high with 14 points and added 10 rebounds and three assists, White chipped in 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and eight steals and Haley Dickerson collected seven points, six boards and three assists.

Brooke Garvis totaled seven points and five rebounds, Evie Main tallied four points and a career-high nine boards and Addyson Cibula registered five points and six boards. Garvis was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line, while Cibula sunk 3-of-4.
Alex Garvis finished with four rebounds and four assists, Payton Carkhuff grabbed four boards, Camryn Klein scored four points and Bella Winther sunk a 3-pointer for her three points.
The Cardinals shot 40 percent from the floor, made 4-of-19 from 3 and buried 13-of-23 from the foul line. Newton turned the ball over 18 times but grabbed 23 offensive rebounds.
Des Moines Lincoln (6-15) dropped its fifth straight game.

Oskaloosa 42, Newton 31
OSKALOOSA — Carkhuff scored 10 points, White grabbed 10 boards and the Cardinals grabbed 13 offensive rebounds, but Newton struggled to score during a 42-31 road loss to Oskaloosa on Friday.
Newton trailed by seven after one, and the Indians outscored their visitors by four the rest of the way in the Little Hawkeye Conference matchup.
The two teams split the season series for the second straight year. The Cardinals are 22-16 against the Indians since 2007.
White led the Cardinals with eighth points, 10 rebounds and three steals and Carkhuff tallied 10 points and four boards.
Alex Garvis totaled six points, two rebounds, three assists and four steals, Dickerson had four points and two rebounds, Riney grabbed four boards and Brooke Garvis corralled two rebounds.

The Cardinals (9-10, 2-9 in the conference) shot 30 percent from the floor, made 3-of-13 from 3 and hit on 2-of-5 from the foul line. Newton turned the ball over 13 times and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds.
Oskaloosa (9-9, 3-8) was led by Naomi Cole’s 12 points.
Pella Christian 36, Newton 21
PELLA — A tough shooting night, 18 turnovers and a significant disadvantage on the boards plagued Newton against Pella Christian on Tuesday.
The Eagles led by eight after one and outscored the Cardinals by eight more in the fourth during a 36-21 home win in LHC play.

Newton shot just 12 percent from the floor and was 2-of-24 from 3. That led to a sixth straight loss.
The Cardinals also were called for 10 more fouls. The Eagles turned that into seven more points from the free-throw line.
White led Newton with six points, four rebounds and five steals and Alex Garvis added six points and eight boards.
Carkhuff totaled four points and two assists, Riney grabbed six boards, Cibula corralled five rebounds and Dickerson pulled down four rebounds. Klein tallied two boards.
The Cardinals were 7-of-8 from the foul line but were out-rebounded 44-31.

Pella Christian converted 14-of-23 from the foul line but struggled from the floor, too. The Eagles (7-12, 1-9) shot 21.7 percent from the field and made only 2-of-23 from 3. They also turned it over 17 times.
Rachel Kacmarynski led the hosts with eight points and 13 rebounds and Faith Kacmarynski chipped in seven points and seven rebounds. Brynn Runner scored a game-high 11 points.
The win for the Eagles gave them a season split. Pella Christian has won four of the past five and five of the last seven in the series.
