L-S wrestlers win four titles at Iowa Star Conference Invitational

ROCKFORD — Four Hawks won titles and the Lynnville-Sully boys wrestling team registered 19 pins during the Iowa Star Conference Invitational on Saturday.

The Hawks placed third in the 10-team field, while Baxter scored 47 points in eighth.

Riceville won the tournament with 168.5 points. The rest of the top five featured Maquoketa Valley (142.5), Lynnville-Sully (122.5), Moravia (117) and Janesville (99.5).

BCLUW-SH (82.5) was sixth and the rest of the field included North Tama (75), Baxter (47), Tripoli (43) and host Rockford (39).

Four of the six Hawks in the field won titles, while L-S also was third and fifth in its other two weights.

The Bolts entered only four wrestlers in the tournament and Skyler Stoll left the event early with an injury.

Jett Kramer, Kimball Elliott, Matthew Mintle and Ben Squires all won individual titles for the Hawks, while Jack Anderson won his 40th match and placed first at 138 pounds.

Kramer was 4-0 with four pins at 113, Mintle was 5-0 with five pins at 132 and Elliott finished 3-0 with three pins at 126. Squires won the title at 285 after going 4-1 with three pins and one technical fall.

Class 1A No. 11 Kramer (39-6) posted three first-period falls, Mintle (42-6) recorded four first-period pins and Burt Johnson and Wyatt Mathis both had two first-period pins at 138 and 165, respectively.

Johnson and Mathis both were 2-2. Johnson placed third and Mathis was fifth at his weight.

Anderson (40-7) led the Bolts with a first-place finish at 138. Anderson was 4-0 with three pins, including a win over L-S’ Johnson. He defeated Riceville’s Chance Christensen, 6-4, in the finals.

The next best finisher was Maddox Peters (27-18). He was third at 157 with a 2-2 day that featured a 36-second pin.

Derek Rominger was 0-5 and placed sixth at 132, while Stoll won his first two matches before leaving the tournament with an injury.

Bolts fall twice at road triangular

GREENFIELD — Anderson was 2-0 for the night, but the Bolts lost twice in a road triangular at Nodaway Valley on Thursday.

Baxter was defeated 64-5 by the host Wolverines and Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas downed the Bolts 57-12.

The Bolts were 1-2 in contested matches against Nodaway Valley and the Wolverines were 9-0 in forfeits. Anderson won his match 17-0 at 138.

Baxter finished 2-1 in contested matches against Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas, but the Bolts gave up all nine forfeits. There were two double forfeits in both duals.

Anderson scored a win by fall in 39 seconds and Peters registered a fall against the Warhawks.
