L-S wrestlers fall three times at home quadrangular

Hawks drop three duals at Pleasantville

SULLY — Five Hawks won two matches, but the short-handed Lynnville-Sully boys wrestling team couldn’t find the win column during a home quadrangular on Tuesday.

The Hawks fell 42-30 to Martensale-St. Marys, lost 48-28 to Chariton and dropped a 77-0 dual to Class 2A No. 11 Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

Lynnville-Sully was 5-0 combined in contested matches in the losses to Martensdale-St. Marys and Chariton but dropped all five bouts to the Rockets, who are No. 2 in the tournament rankings with five ranked individuals.

Kimball Elliott (126), Matthew Mintle (132) and Burt Johnson (138) all went 2-1 and Class 1A No. 11 Jett Kramer (113) and Wyatt Mathis (165) were 2-1 with two forfeits.

The Hawks were 2-0 in contested matches but had a 7-3 disadvantage in forfeits in the loss to the Blue Devils. Elliott and Mintle both won by fall and Kramer (34-5), Johnson and Mathis all took forfeits.

L-S finished 3-0 in contested matches against Chariton. Johnson won by fall and Elliott (29-5) and Mintle both won by technical fall. Kramer and Mathis each accepted forfeits, but the Hawks were 2-8 in the category.

The Hawks were 0-5 in contested matches against EBF. Kramer lost 6-4 to Garrett Pumphrey at 113 and Mintle (34-6) fell 4-1 to 2A No. 8 Brett Johnson.

Burt Johnson’s loss came to 2A No. 3 Landen Davis and Elliott lost to 2A No. 1 Gage Spurgeon.

Hawk trio leads L-S grapplers at Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE — Kramer, Elliott and Mintle all went 3-0 and the Hawks were 7-8 in contested matches but Lynnville-Sully lost to host Pleasantville, Panorama and East Union at a road quadrangular on Thursday.

In the 59-23 loss to the Trojans, the Hawks split six contested matches but gave up eight forfeits. Elliott, Mintle and Kramer all won by fall.

L-S was 3-2 in contested matches in the 46-21 loss to Panorama. Elliott and Mintle both won by fall, while Kramer won 18-11. Chase Deal also took a forfeit at 190.

Kramer, who entered the rankings for the first time this season this week, got the only contested win against East Union. Elliott and Mintle both took forfeits.
