The Newton boys basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped by Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday.
The Cardinals trailed by nine after one quarter, went into halftime down by 14 and never recovered during a 76-47 home loss in Little Hawkeye Conference action.
Newton dropped to 3-5 this season when scoring fewer than 50 points. DCG won its fourth straight against the Cardinals and improved to 18-6 in the series since 2014.
Landon Bozarth finished with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists and Caden Klein added 13 points, four boards and two assists to lead the Cardinals.
Dawson Maki totaled five points, two rebounds and two blocks, Christian Ergenbright tallied five points and two rebounds, Creighton Andrew dished out four assists and Grant Osby scored a career-high four points.
Newton shot 45 percent from the floor but was only 5-of-18 from 3-point range and 4-of-8 from the free-throw line. The Cardinals (8-6, 3-5 in the conference) only committed 10 turnovers.
The Mustangs (9-5, 7-0) have won eight of their last 10 games.
