Tori White posted her third career double-double, but the Newton girls basketball team had a tough shooting night and committed 33 turnovers during a 45-26 home loss to Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday.
The Cardinals held the Class 4A No. 5 Mustangs to single digits in two of the four quarters but was limited to fewer than 30 points for the second straight game and the third time in the past four contests.
Dallas Center-Grimes is 25-0 against Newton since 2014. The Cardinals dropped their fourth straight and fell to 2-6 in Little Hawkeye Conference play.
White finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. It was her first double-double of the season.
Alex Garvis totaled six points, four rebounds and two steals, Alex Riney put in five points and grabbed four boards and Payton Carkhuff tallied four points and four rebounds. Garvis was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Hailey Dickerson pulled down six rebounds and Brooke Garvis grabbed three boards.
The Cardinals (8-7) shot 25.7 percent from the floor, made 2-of-11 from 3-point range and connected on 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. They trailed DCG 9-3 after one and were outscored 11-5 in the second and 16-7 in the third.
Dallas Center-Grimes (13-3, 7-0 in the conference) was led by Macy Meyer, who scored a game-high 22 points. The Mustangs, who start one junior, three sophomores and a freshman, were 10-of-16 from the foul line.
