COLFAX — The Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team dominated on the boards and made seven 3-pointers but couldn’t hold a halftime lead during a 43-41 home loss to Keota on Friday.
The Tigerhawks lost the South Iowa Cedar League contest in part because they turned the ball over 28 times.
The game was tied at 13-all after one quarter, but C-M outscored the Eagles 13-8 in the second. Keota rallied with a 22-15 second half.
Isabelle Foglesong led Colfax-Mingo with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals and Blain Houseman added 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Lydia Hansen tallied six points, seven rebounds and two blocks, Dakota Allen chipped in four points, six boards and three steals and Mallory Sipma registered three points, five rebounds and two assists. Mickinley Bucklin grabbed four boards.
The Tigerhawks (4-9, 3-6 in the SICL) shot 32.6 percent from the floor, made 7-of-14 from 3-point range and missed eight free throws. They out-rebounded the Eagles 37-24.
Keota got nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals from Kimberly Clarahan. The Eagles were 3-of-18 from 3 and 8-of-22 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over 23 times.
BOYS
Keota 81, Colfax-Mingo 48
The Colfax-Mingo boys basketball team turned the ball over 20 times and got out-rebounded 40-26 during an 81-48 home loss to Keota on Friday.
The Tigerhawks missed just one free throw but shot 33.3 percent from the floor in the SICL contest.
Keota led 18-11 after one and outscored C-M 21-16 in the second, 25-10 in the third and 17-11 in the fourth.
Harrison Rhone led the Tigerhawks with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals. He was 4-of-9 from 3-point range.
Jace Lewis was 2-of-3 from 3 and scored eight points, Gage Byal added six points and three rebounds, Wyatt Jay chipped in four points and four boards and Isaiah Lewis grabbed six rebounds.
Wyatt Thornton tallied four points and two rebounds, Wyatt Carpenter finished with three points and two boards, Shane Hostetter grabbed three rebounds and Chase Trotter dished out three assists.
The Tigerhawks (2-9, 2-7) shot 6-of-16 from 3 and made 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Chase Haifley led Keota with 16 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists and Jace Chalupa added 18 points and nine boards. Billie Kindred tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Keota (9-2, 7-1) shot 51.6 percent from the floor, hit 8-of-18 from 3 and missed 10 free throws. Fifteen of their 40 rebounds came at the offensive end of the floor.
