Four pins not enough for Cards against Cedar Rapids Kennedy

CEDAR RAPIDS — Kent Montgomery stayed unbeaten and the Newton wrestling team registered four pins, but Cedar Rapids Kennedy was too much to hold down during a 44-27 non-conference dual on Tuesday.

Class 1A No. 4 Montgomery won his match 4-0 at 106 pounds to give Newton its first points of the night. Montgomery improved to 15-0 on the season.

Zander Robson scored a 56-second pin at 132, Aiden Robson (13-6) won by fall at 150, Lane Rozendaal (9-2) posted a first-period pin at 157 and Nick Milburn got a win by pin at 215.

The Cardinals were 5-9 in contested matches. There were no forfeits and no double forfeits.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy registered five pins, one technical fall and three wins by decision. Newton claimed four pins and one win by decision.

Class 3A No. 10 Anthony Keys of Cedar Rapids Kennedy defeated Newton’s Coleby Revell, 8-1, at 285.
