WINTERSET — Kylee Adams, Stella Cupples and Ella Machin all went 4-0 with a combined nine pins and the Newton girls wrestling team claimed three of its four duals during a road quintuple on Thursday.
The Cardinals went a combined 13-2 in contested matches in their wins over Norwalk, Central Decatur and host Winterset but struggled in a 66-15 loss to Carlisle.
Newton downed Little Hawkeye Conference rival Norwalk 48-14 and also scored 45-12 and 42-12 wins over Winterset and Central Decatur, respectively.
Adams, Cupples and Machin each went 4-0 with three pins at their respective weights. Rosa Borja was 3-1 with two forfeits at 110 pounds and Kamiya Lepley finished 3-1 with three forfeits at 155.
Newton was 4-2 in contested matches against Norwalk and had a 4-2 advantage in forfeits. There were two double forfeits.
Adams (105), Cupples (115), Machin (170) and Ashlyn Van Manen (235) all won by fall and Borja (110), Alivia Conley (120), Lepley (155) and Grace Guy (190) all accepted forfeits.
The Cardinals were 6-0 in contested matches against Winterset with Adams, Machin, Guy and Jeralys Casanova (130) all winning by fall. Borja won her match 4-0 and Peyton Hoen scored a win by injury time. Cupples and Lepley both took forfeits and there were four double forfeits.
The three contested wins against Central Decatur came by pins from Adams, Cupples and Hoen. There were five double forfeits and Newton had a 4-2 advantage in forfeits with Borja, Lepley, Machin and Van Manen (190) all taking victories without a match.
The Cardinals were 3-5 in contested matches against Carlisle and the Wildcats accepted all six forfeits. Adams won her match 12-7 at 105 and Cupples and Machin both won by fall.
Adams made her debut at 105 and went 4-0 with four contested wins.
