DES MOINES — The Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella boys swim team won all but two events and finished 1-2 twice during its road battle with Des Moines Lincoln on Tuesday.
Finn Martin and Ethan Comer both were part of four wins and MacK Copeland scored three victories as NCMP defeated the Railsplitters 90-79.
Martin, Comer and Copeland all were part of the winning 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.
Martin also won the 50 and 100 freestyle, Comer scored wins in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley and Copeland led the Cardinals to a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle.
NCMP also got individual wins from Drew Fuller and Caleb Punt and Hudson Meyer and Fuller gave the Cardinals a 2-3 finish in one the two events they didn’t win.
Meyer, Comer, Martin and Copeland opened the night with a win in the 200 medley relay. The foursome finished the race in 1 minute, 46.12 seconds. Lincoln was 2-3 in the event.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the Cardinals went 1-3. The winning team featured Martin, Comer, Punt and Copeland and they finished in 1:35.83. The third-place foursome featured Reilly Trease, Derek Wermager, Heath Anderson and Kaden Marshall and they hit the wall in 1:55.40.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Fuller, Meyer, Wermager and Punt finished second in 3:58.39.
Copeland (2:04.75) edged Punt (2:05.13) to win the 200 freestyle and Fuller (5:39.51) won the 500 freestyle with Copeland (5:49.43) finishing second.
Martin won the 50 freestyle in 21.53 seconds and Trease finished third in 27.89. Martin’s winning time in the 100 freestyle was clocked in 47.05.
Comer’s winning time in the 200 IM was clocked in 2:11.19 and he won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.32. Lincoln finished 2-3-4 in the IM and went 2-3 in the breaststroke.
The final win for NCMP came from Punt, who won the 100 butterfly in 1:08.61. Lincoln finished 2-3-4 in the event.
Meyer finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.14 and Fuller was third in 1:09.22.
Notes: Isaiah Hansen (30.29) edged Nathan Stoltzfus (30.63) to win the junior varsity 50 freestyle. … Evan Marshall was not available Tuesday due of an injury.
