Newton girls fall to No. 8 DCG in LHC contest

GRIMES — A tough night on the court for the Newton girls basketball team resulted in a 67-17 loss to Class 4A No. 8 Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday.

The Cardinals were limited to single digits in all four quarters and were 0-of-11 from 3-point range in the loss.

The Mustangs led 23-2 after one quarter and cruised from there. They won the second 19-6 and the third 15-3. Newton came within four in the fourth.

Addyson Cibula led Newton with six points and three rebounds off the bench. Alex Garvis added four points and three boards and Tori White grabbed three rebounds.

Hailey Dickerson, Sophia Coady and Brooke Garvis each pulled down two rebounds.

Newton (4-2, 0-2 in the conference) shot 29 percent from the floor, were 3-of-4 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over 26 times.

Dallas Center-Grimes (6-1, 1-0) is now 24-0 against Newton since 2014. The 17 points scored by the Cardinals were the fewest during that stretch.
