L-S wrestlers win on mat, lose three duals in road quad

Hawks give up 22 forfeits in losses to Albia, Iowa Valley, Tipton

MARENGO — Five Hawks won at least two matches and the squad was 10-5 in contested matches, but the Lynnville-Sully wrestling team couldn’t find the win column on Tuesday thanks to 22 forfeit losses.

Jett Kramer and Matthew Mintle both went 3-0 and Kimball Elliott scored two pins in his season debut, but the Hawks lost 54-30 to Albia, 51-23 to Iowa Valley and 54-24 to Tipton.

L-S was 4-1 in contested matches against Albia but gave away 48 points in forfeits. Ben Squires (285), Kramer (113), Elliott (126) and Burt Johnson (132) all won by fall and Mintle took a forfeit at 138.

The Hawks finished 4-2 in contested matches against South Iowa Cedar League rival Iowa Valley, but the Tigers accepted seven forfeits. Kramer (106), Elliott and Johnson all won by fall and Mintle registered a 22-2 technical fall victory.

L-S and Tipton split their four contested matches, but the Hawks had a 7-2 disadvantage in forfeits. Kramer and Mintle both won by fall and Squires and Elliott each took forfeits.

Kramer (9-2) was 3-0 with three first-period pins at 106 and 113 and Mintle (10-1) finished 3-0 at 138.

Elliott’s season debut included a 3-0 night with two pins at 126. Johnson (6-5) was 2-1 with two pins at 132 and Squires (7-4) won twice at heavyweight.
