L-S girls dominate boards in victory over BGM

Fast start pushes Class 1A No. 13 Hawks past Bears

BROOKLYN — A fast start and domination on the boards helped the Class 1A No. 13 Lynnville-Sully girls basketball team to a South Iowa Cedar League victory over BGM on Tuesday.

The Hawks held the Bears to single digits in three of the four quarters, limited their hosts to 29 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers during a 54-31 road victory.

“We did enough to get the win tonight,” L-S head girls basketball coach Jerry Hulsing said. “We had a good couple of minutes in the third quarter where we ran the floor and were able to get some easy baskets.”

The Hawks led 15-7 after one quarter and outscored BGM 12-4 in the second and 18-9 in the fourth.

Ava Brummel led the visitors with 16 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks and Breah Lowry added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Alaina Roberts tallied seven points and two rebounds, Katie Harthoorn chipped in six points and five boards and Isabelle Vos added five points, four rebounds and two assists.

Tatum Huyser finished with three rebounds and two blocks, Brilynn Tice dished out four assists and swiped two steals and Brooke Harthoorn grabbed three boards.

Lynnville-Sully (5-3, 3-2 in the SICL) shot 35.7 percent from the floor, made 2-of-12 from 3-point range and connected on 12-of-25 from the free-throw line.

The Hawks turned the ball over 15 times and out-rebounded BGM 41-29.

Emersyn Minnaert led the Bears (2-4, 0-4) with 11 points and Ryanne VanDee added six points and four boards. The Bears were 4-of-18 from 3 and 3-of-6 from the foul line.
